Works on the concert area at the National Park in Ta’ Qali are in their final phase, with this space expected to open to the public soon.

A statement by the Ministry for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works said that this update was given by the Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works, Chris Bonett and the Parliamentary Secretary for Public Works, Omar Farrugia during a visit they made to the park.

Minister Bonett was quoted as having said that this area, which until a few years ago was a concrete plant covered with tons of illegally dumped construction material, has now been redeveloped into an open space, which will offer all possible facilities to stage mass activities of the highest level.

This project is at the heart of the Government’s policy to give more open spaces to citizens. This concert area will also be able to be used as a recreational space for the public. I am committed to keep working to continue improving the quality of life of Maltese and Gozitans.

On his part, Parliamentary Secretary Farrugia said that this is another project that testifies to the strong policy adopted by the Government to continue giving people green and open spaces to be enjoyed by families.

This concert area is an integral part of a large project of works carried out by the Department for Public Works in the regeneration of the National Park. The strong investment made in this park includes the largest green space in our country with the size of 20 football fields, a theater, a new hall for exhibitions, a new square, new walkways for physical exercise, new sanitary services, a new fountain, a specialized lighting system and a large parking lot for 500 vehicles.

The concert area at the National Park in Ta’ Qali will be equipped with the best technology and facilities to host concerts of the highest level and mass activities, including dressing rooms and a backstage below ground floor, a clinic, a security control room, two design kiosks and 144 toilets.

The statement added that in the area, all the water will be collected from a large reservoir located under the green space of the park. The area will also be guarded by security cameras 24 hours a day.

The area will be the first of its kind in Malta, and is expected to host the first of a series of international concerts in the final quarter of this year.

The Unit Head of the National Park in Ta’ Qali, Jason Micallef, stated that this is the biggest regeneration on different green spaces that has ever been carried out in the country, which is leaving the desired results. He mentioned how the National Park in Ta’ Qali today has a structure through a unit set up to manage the National Park, including its maintenance.
